"... she was hopeful in a most bleak way."

Overview

Forsaking her human body for the strength of metal, Sophitia was charged with the defense of the dilapidated citadel - Babylon. When the sudden assault of a nanomechanical foe beyond mortal comprehension caves in her reality, she finds herself plummeting into the depths of an ageless struggle. Subject to the events of a past lost to the ages, she is caught between those that crushed the world for power and the legendary blade Excalibur that could resurrect the dream once called Camelot.

Chasing the truth will carry her beyond the ends of the world, and across dimensional space itself. Even as the answers inevitably pile upon each other, she must decide whether the secret within her shell is worth abandoning her identity for the cold justice of destiny. Will she become a puppet to the fate thrust upon her, or will it destroy her?

"... she was as hard as metal."

"... it was an age of dust and metal."

The World of Legend's Future

Shortly after the death of Arthur and the returning of Excalibur to the Lady of the Lake, a wicked plot was hatched to retrieve the blade using both deception and black magic. The subsequent night of terror succeeded in wresting the blade from the lake, but once the hands of the dark hearted conquerors touched Excalibur - the peerless blade shattered itself. The sundered blade of kings instantly ignited a civil war that raged into the far distant future - into a time of technology and devastation long since abandoning hope.

The Nanetik Plagues

A cruel tactic of unmitigated inhumanity, the nanomachine weapons were developed for the sole purpose of retrieving the shards of Excalibur, even if it meant annihilating the world. Once in the wild, the various strains of nanoscopic machines unleashed an evolutionary war on the planet. Forcibly evolving every life form into re-engineered monstrosities, humans alone were left untouched by the nanomechanical onslaught. Whoever programmed the merciful lines of code that spared humanity was surely not the same person who released them. Amongst the chaos, there were those who blended technology and ancient demonic magic to create blasphemies more intent on murdering of civilization than finding pieces of the lost sword.

In the end, after all that was left fell to dust, humans found themselves struggling to survive against cyberbeasts of every ilk. Yet even in the wreckage of society, total domination still eluded those that would crush the world in their fists ...
